Pyongyang unveils new intercontinental ballistic missile

North Korea has conducted another A military parade in the capital Pyongyang, where demonstrated a new intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time.
The event was timed to coincide with the national holiday - the anniversary of the establishment of the Korean People's Army.

«The parade showcased the latest developments in North Korean defence industry, including long-range missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles», - reports Reuters.


New missile is a “symbol of strategic power”

According to preliminary data, the presented missile is a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), capable of overcoming thousands of kilometres and carry nuclear warhead.
DPRK state media called it “a symbol of the country's strategic power”.

During the speech Kim Jong-un said that North Korea will continue to develop its “defence capabilities” and “will not allow any enemy to threaten its sovereignty”.

«We are showing the world that no amount of pressure will break our spirit and our willingness to defend the country,» Kim said.

Parade with military, vehicles and drones

Columns of soldiers, armoured vehicles, missile systems and long-range drones, which became a new element of this year's demonstration.
The parade was broadcast on the DPRK's central television and was accompanied by mass performances by orchestras and flag bearers.

According to international analysts, New ICBMs have a modular design and can be launched from mobile platforms, making them difficult to detect by satellite surveillance systems.


The world's reaction

The demonstration of the new missiles caused concern in the United States, South Korea and Japan.
Seoul said it was closely analysing the images of the missile, while Washington emphasised:

«The United States remains committed to protecting its allies in the region and is prepared for any development,» a White House spokesman said.

Analysts note that the parade has become show of force amid rising tensions in the region and new sanctions against Pyongyang.
