Ukraine prepares for biggest energy upgrade since war as government launches new stabilisation plan
Following a series of nighttime attacks on energy facilities, the Ukrainian government immediately approved A new plan to stabilise the power system, which is expected to change electricity supply schedules in all regions this week.
According to the Energy Minister, priority areas have already been identified to strengthen reserve capacities. Some power units, in particular at nuclear power plants, reached nominal generation capacity, which allows us to talk about a reduction in outages in the coming days.
Three key decisions that will affect the whole country
First, we are deploying an upgraded fast balancing system to avoid long and unpredictable outages.
Secondly, the government is introducing a separate protected line for hospitals, water utilities and communications facilities.
Thirdly, international partners agreed to accelerate the supply of equipment to restore substations.
Why this is important right now
According to energy experts, the latest strikes were among the most powerful in recent months. Nevertheless, key facilities have been kept in operation, and some of the losses will be compensated by the end of the week.
Officials say:
«We are entering the most difficult weeks, but we are in control of the situation».
What this means for Ukrainians in the coming days
Long-term outages and more stable schedules are expected.
It is also planned to launch new mobile generation sources that will be able to support regions at risk of new attacks.
