Poland can no longer accept new refugees
Poland is at the limit of their capabilities regarding the reception of new Ukrainian refugees. This was stated by the head of the Bureau of International Policy under the President of Poland Marcin Przydacz in an interview with local media. According to him, the country has already provided asylum to millions of Ukrainians, but its resources - financial, social and housing - are almost exhausted.
«We have done everything possible to help Ukraine and its citizens. But now we are approaching the limit of our capabilities,» Przydacz said.
Social burden and financial stress
The Polish government has spent billions of zlotys to support Ukrainians who arrived after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. The state provides some refugees with housing, social benefits, medical care and education.
However, as the official noted, The growing number of IDPs puts additional strain on the healthcare system, schools and local communities. Przydacz also stressed that further support is possible only if the European Union provides assistance.
Warsaw calls for EU solidarity
Poland insists that Refugee distribution should be a shared responsibility of all EU countries. The government expects Brussels to increase financial support and develop mechanisms for a more even distribution of Ukrainians across the EU.
«We remain friends of Ukraine, but our resources are not unlimited. The time has come for greater European solidarity,» Przydacz said.
Context: Poland is one of the main safe havens for Ukrainians
According to Polish services, More than 1.5 million Ukrainians received temporary protection or a residence permit in Poland. The country became the main humanitarian hub in the first months of the war, receiving thousands of people every day. However, over time, the situation became more complicated due to the rising cost of living and the fatigue of society from the prolonged workload.
