A railway line to Ukraine is damaged in Poland: the incident is being investigated as sabotage

In Poland, a section of the railway line used by trains to Ukraine was damaged. The incident occurred 16 November in the Mazovian Voivodeship on the route from Warsaw to the border station Dorohusk.

Local police and security services are investigating the incident as potential sabotage.

Details of the incident

According to Polish media, the damage was discovered during a routine inspection of the track. Technical interventions were recorded on the line, which could pose a threat to train traffic, including international flights to Ukraine.

Poland's Prime Minister said the situation «raises serious suspicions» and could be a consequence of deliberate sabotage, aimed at transport infrastructure important for defence logistics.

Traffic on certain sections of the line was temporarily restricted, while technical checks and investigations are ongoing.

Context.

In recent years, Poland has reported several times about possible sabotage attempts related to transport and energy infrastructure. Against the backdrop of Russia's war against Ukraine, Polish special services have tightened control over strategic facilities, including corridors used to deliver humanitarian and defence aid.

The Warsaw-Dorohusk line is one of the key routes for passenger and freight traffic between Poland and Ukraine.
