President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine was trying to establish contact with Iran to stop the drone supply to Russia since the beginning of the full-scale war. However, Iran continues to train and supply drones used by Russia to attack Ukrainian infrastructure. This is why Zelenskyy expressed a negative attitude towards Tehran.

Ukraine tried to influence Iran

President Zelenskyy said that Kyiv had repeatedly tried to contact the Iranian side to stop the supply of drones to Russia. The requests have been made since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.

However, according to Zelenskyy, Iran continues to train the Russian military and supply drones used to attack Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The President stressed that he has no positive attitude towards Iran because of these actions.

The impact of the war in the Middle East

Zelensky noted that war in the Middle East has a strong impact on Ukraine, especially in the area of air defence. Most of the air defence missiles purchased under the international PURL programme are now heading to the Middle East.

The supply of missiles to Ukraine has not yet stopped, but the possibilities for increasing their number are limited. This makes it difficult to protect Ukrainian skies from Russian attacks.

Context.

Russia earned $10 billion in the first two weeks of the war in the Middle East. Moscow is spending all this money on weapons, which increases the threat to Ukraine.

According to Zelenskyy, the war in the Middle East is beneficial to Russia, as it allows it to strengthen its own military capabilities. Ukraine continues to seek international support to strengthen its defence capabilities.
