Poland to allocate $100 million for purchase of US weapons for Ukraine under PURL scheme

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radoslav Sikorsky said that Warsaw would allocate $100 million for the purchase of US weapons for Ukraine under the programme PURL.

Under this scheme, partner countries finance the purchase of American defence systems, which Washington promptly supplies to Ukraine.

Why Poland is increasing its support

Sikorski stressed that Poland «remains one of Ukraine's key partners» and will continue to strengthen its defence capabilities.

Funding under the PURL programme will allow:

  • speed up the supply of modern weapons;

  • to increase the combat capability of the Armed Forces;

  • expand military-technical cooperation with the United States.

Context.

The announcement came amidst heavy shelling of Ukraine and intensified diplomatic talks on a potential peace deal. Poland has consistently advocated for strengthening Ukraine's defence and increasing NATO's role in the region.
