Pompeo joins advisory board of Fire Point, a company linked to Mindich

Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo became a member of the new international advisory board of a Ukrainian defence company Fire Point, reports Associated Press. The company has been repeatedly linked to Timur Mindich's business environment.

Fire Point said that the creation of the advisory board was a necessary step after the company began to enter international markets. CTO Olga Terekh stressed that Pompeo's arrival is a «great honour» and an important image boost.

Details

According to Terekh, the company has ambitions to expand production and cooperation with foreign partners, and Pompeo's participation in the advisory board is intended to strengthen its global presence and expertise in defence technology.

However, in parallel, Fire Point is under investigation as part of an investigation into possible overstatement of the cost of components and the number of drones in contracts with the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. The investigation is checking whether the actual deliveries were in line with the terms of the contracts.

Context.

Fire Point is one of the new Ukrainian manufacturers of attack and reconnaissance drones that are actively ramping up production amid the war.
The involvement of global politicians in the governing bodies of defence companies is becoming a common practice, but in this case, the resonance is amplified by the company's ties to Mindic, one of the defendants in the energy sector corruption scandal.
