Portugal has contributed to the US arms procurement programme for Ukraine - Shmyhal
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal said that Portugal contributes €50 million to the programme PURL (Ukraine Security Assistance Programme), coordinated by the United States.
«I am grateful to the Government of Portugal for its €50 million contribution to the joint PURL programme. This is another manifestation of the solidarity of our allies and an investment in the security of the whole of Europe,» said Shmyhal.
What is a PURL application
PURL is international mechanism joint financing of arms purchases for Ukraine under US control.
Through this programme, partners can direct funds to purchase modern weapons, ammunition and equipment directly for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Context.
Portugal has consistently supported Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
In addition to financial assistance, Lisbon is involved in training of the Ukrainian military, and also transmitted armoured vehicles, spare parts for Leopard 2 tanks and humanitarian cargo.
Shmyhal emphasised that Portugal's contribution would help accelerate Joint defence procurement, The programme is aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities on the eve of winter.
