«If you evade, your rights are restricted»: Kyiv prosecutor compares mobilisation restrictions to COVID-19
Kyiv Prosecutor's Office Zakharchenko said that men who avoid military service should be subject to severe restrictions on their rights, similar to the COVID-19 pandemic.
«If you evade, your rights are restricted. It's like during kovid: if you don't wear a mask, they won't sell you bread in the store,» he said.
The essence of the statement
According to the prosecutor, the state should use administrative and social restrictions as a tool to influence people who evade their mobilisation obligation, in particular by restricting access to certain services and facilities.
Context.
The issue of liability for evading mobilisation is being actively discussed in Ukraine against the backdrop of martial law and the need to man the Defence Forces. Previously, government officials have repeatedly stated the need to balance between human rights and national security interests.
The prosecutor's statement has already sparked a debate in society about the limits of permissible restrictions on the rights of citizens in times of war.
