Hungary is ready to host the leaders of the US and Russia

Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban said that his country has already set up an organising committee to prepare for the visits of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. According to Orban, the meeting could take place in just two weeks.

«We are ready to host both leaders in Budapest. For this purpose, a special organising committee has been set up to coordinate security and logistics issues,» Orban said in a commentary to the Hungarian media.


The goal is a peace initiative

The meeting is expected to discuss Possible ways to end the war in Ukraine. Orban, who positions himself as a mediator, stressed that «Hungary remains an island of peace» and seeks to become a platform for diplomatic dialogue.

«Peace is not a matter of politics, it is a matter of life,» he added, commenting on the upcoming talks.


Reaction of the international community

There is no official confirmation of the date and format of the meeting yet.
Washington refrained from commenting, while the Kremlin said it was «considering the possibility of participating in the talks».
The Ukrainian authorities, in turn, called for no decisions to be made «behind Kyiv's back» and stressed that Any negotiations without Ukraine's participation will have no legitimacy.
