Oil refinery burns in Russia's Ryazan after drone attack

A fire broke out in Ryazan at a local oil refinery after a nighttime drone attack. Videos of the fire and explosions are widely posted on local telegram channels.

The Russian Ministry of Defence in its morning report stated that overnight there were allegedly 65 Ukrainian drones were shot down, but at the same time, a significant fire at an infrastructure facility is visible in the city.

According to Russian media and eyewitnesses:

  • More than 10 explosions were heard over Ryazan,

  • air defence systems were actively operating in the city,

  • several air targets were shot down,

  • The shock wave from the explosions was felt in different areas.

Local residents report that Loud explosions started after 3 am and continue to this day.


Government response

Official Russian authorities have not yet confirmed the extent of the damage to the refinery. Photos and videos of a large-scale fire are circulating on social media, indicating that the industrial facility was hit.

The Ryazan refinery is one of the region's most important industrial facilities and supplies fuel to several regions.
