New defence plant in Lithuania
German concern Rheinmetall started construction an artillery shell production plant in Lithuania, according to the Lithuanian broadcaster LRT.
Today will take place groundbreaking ceremony a facility to be built in the city Kemeray in the north of the country.
The total area of the industrial zone is 340 hectares.
The Ukrainian project is slowing down
In Ukraine, Rheinmetall is still takes a year and a half to register a land plot for similar production.
According to the company's CEO Armin Pappenger, The Ukrainian plant was to start operating in 2026, However, the timing of implementation is being shifted.
«We started the Ukrainian and German projects almost simultaneously. The German plant is already ready, while in Ukraine we are still coordinating the documents,» said Pappenger.
The problem of bureaucracy
Rheinmetall has repeatedly emphasised the following Bureaucratic barriers in Ukraine, The company's defence production is being hampered by the lack of a proper infrastructure.
Nevertheless, the company is not abandoning its plans and has confirmed that Ukrainian plant will be built after all - as soon as the approvals with government agencies are completed.
