Russia is preparing a massive attack on Odesa with naval drones - DIU

Russia is preparing for a massive attack by naval drones on Odesa. This was reported in the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

According to intelligence, these are Triton-type water drones capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h. Potential targets could include civilian vessels in the Black Sea, as well as Ukraine's port infrastructure.

The Kremlin's likely goal

The intelligence notes that the strategic goal of Russia's actions is to blocking the Black Sea and the disruption of Ukraine's maritime logistics.
Such attacks could create additional risks for international shipping and trade, as well as increase military pressure on the southern regions of the country.

The Russian leadership, led by Vladimir Putin has previously used maritime drones and missile strikes to disrupt Ukrainian ports and grain routes.

The security context in the Black Sea

Following Russia's withdrawal from the grain deal, the situation in the Black Sea remains unstable. Ukraine, together with its international partners, is trying to preserve sea corridors for exporting products that are critical to the economy and global food security.

The growing threat from maritime drones indicates that Russia may be moving to a new phase of pressure on Ukraine's port infrastructure.
