«The »energy truce" is over - Russia resumes attacks on Ukraine's energy sector

The so-called «energy truce» has ended, as Russia has resumed massive attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

Consequences of the attacks

As a result of enemy attacks on energy facilities de-energised consumers in four regions:

  • Kharkiv region;

  • Sumy region;

  • Dnipropetrovska oblast;

  • Cherkasy region.

The extent of the damage and the number of disconnected customers are being clarified. Power engineers are working to restore power supply and assess the damage.

Position of the Ministry of Energy

The agency noted that the attacks indicate complete termination of any informal arrangements to refrain from strikes on energy infrastructure and confirm Russia's targeted tactics to destabilise Ukraine's energy system.

Context.

Russian troops have repeatedly attacked Ukraine's energy facilities, especially in the autumn and winter, in an attempt to leave civilians without electricity, heat and water supply.
