Putin seeks to completely take over Ukraine, and then part of Europe - US intelligence
US intelligence has concluded that Russian President Vladimir Putin's strategic military goals remain unchanged: the complete occupation of Ukraine and further expansion of his influence in Europe. This is stated in the report of the US intelligence community, which the agency has seen Reuters.
What is covered in the report
The latest US intelligence report, dated at the end of September, contradicts the public statements of the US President Donald Trump and his negotiators, who had previously claimed that Putin was supposedly ready for a peaceful settlement of the war against Ukraine.
According to intelligence estimates, the Kremlin has not abandoned its maximalist goals, and Moscow views the war against Ukraine as a stage in a broader strategy of pressure on Europe.
Position of the US Congress
Member of the US Congressional Intelligence Committee Mike Quigley confirmed these assessments, stressing that such intentions of Russia are not new to Western partners.
«Intelligence has always indicated that Putin wants more. Europeans are convinced of this. The Poles are absolutely convinced of this. The Baltic states believe they are the first,» Quigley said.
Context.
Countries in Eastern and Northern Europe have repeatedly warned of the risk of further aggression by Russia if support for Ukraine is weakened. Of particular concern are Poland and the Baltic States, who consider themselves potential next targets of the Kremlin.
Analysts emphasise that these findings of the US intelligence strengthen the arguments in favour of long-term military and financial support for Ukraine from the West.
