Marco Rubio says there will be no unlimited financial support for Ukraine

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the United States does not plan to provide Ukraine with unlimited financial support, regardless of the duration of the war.

«Some people think that the US should provide unlimited financial assistance to Ukraine, no matter how long the war lasts. This is unrealistic, it will not happen. We've been saying that for a long time,» Rubio said.

His words reflect the current course of the US administration, which emphasises sharing the burden between allies, and the transition to a more structured support model.

Fighting for 30-50 km of territory

Rubio noted that Ukraine and Russia are now on the frontline fight for a territory of only 30-50 km, which is approximately 20% of the Kyiv-controlled part of Donetsk region.

He stressed that this strip of territory is critical for both sides due to logistics, altitude and access to transport arteries.

Economic forecast: Ukraine may overtake Russia

Despite the limited assistance, the Secretary of State said that Ukraine's potential remains significant:

«Theoretically, if we do the right things, in 10 years Ukraine's GDP could exceed Russia's.».

According to Rubio, the key factors:

  • investments in the military-industrial complex;

  • Ukraine's access to Western technologies;

  • expected integration into European markets;

  • rapid recovery of the energy sector after the war;

  • Demilitarisation of Russia as a result of economic exhaustion.

Context.

The Secretary of State's statements came amid active negotiations between Washington and Kyiv on a new support architecture. The United States expects greater involvement from European allies, while Ukraine insists on guarantees of stable defence assistance.
