Russian Federation declares «proximity of peace» with Ukraine as new missile attacks on Kyiv continue

Russia says it is «reasonably close» to ending the war as new attacks on Kyiv continue

The Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation stated that Russia and Ukraine are allegedly «reasonably close to a diplomatic end to the war».
The statement came at a time when Russian troops launch new missile attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.

According to him, «the Russian side is ready for a peaceful dialogue if it takes into account the realities on the ground».
This phrase is traditionally repeated by Kremlin's rhetoric about «conditions for peace», which actually means a demand to recognise the occupation of Ukrainian territories.


Context: another attack on the capital

On the night of 25 October, the Russians ballistic missile strikes on a thermal power plant on the left bank of Kyiv, Residential buildings and a kindergarten were damaged.
According to KMWA, at least nine people were injured, Three of them are in hospital.

«After such “peaceful” statements, we see explosions in the capital again. This is what their diplomacy looks like,» said the Ukrainian representative.


Reaction.

Ukrainian analysts called the statement of the Kremlin representative an attempt to create the illusion of readiness for negotiations for an international audience while continuing the war.

Experts remind that similar statements by russia appear every time before the next shelling or military escalation.
