On the night of 4 October, Russians attacked energy facilities in Chernihiv region. Several important power facilities were damaged, some consumers were left without electricity, and power companies are reconnecting the power supply. According to preliminary estimates, about 50,000 customers were affected by the blackouts.
What happened
Several key power supply facilities in the region were damaged as a result of a drone attack. «Chernihivoblenergo reported emergency power outages and the start of work to restore power supply (re-energisation) in stages.
The scale of the impact
According to the operator, approximately 50,000 consumers were without electricity. The power company emphasises that crews are already working on the damaged sections of the grid.
Context.
The day before, on 3 October, Ukrenergo reported the most difficult situation in Sumy and Chernihiv regions. In Chernihiv region, the hourly consumption restrictions remained in place.
How the schedules work on 4 October
The region continues to operate an hourly rolling blackout schedule based on the three-in-three principle: three hours with power and three hours without. During off-peak hours, partial relief of outages is possible, subject to technical feasibility.
What consumers should do today
- Check your turn and outage intervals in Chernihivoblenergo's publications (official company pages and announced schedules).
- If possible, postpone the use of energy-intensive appliances until after 22:00 and minimise consumption between 10:00 and 22:00. These recommendations are provided by Ukrenergo and the Ministry of Energy amid a high load on the system.
What's next
Power companies continue to restore power supply in stages and promise to do everything possible to avoid additional outages outside the approved schedules. Changes in the LRP mode will be announced separately.
Separately
As of 3 October, about 10% of distribution capacity in the region was destroyed by previous strikes, which is why the schedules simultaneously cover a significant portion of consumers.
