Russian spies discovered disguised as fishermen and tourists in Norway

Russian agents infiltrate port city Kirkenes in northern Norway, disguised as fishermen and tourists, reports SVT. Commander Finnmark's divisions, John Olav Fuglem, stressed that the activity of Russian intelligence and hybrid warfare in the border region is growing.

«We see a bigger threat here, and it's primarily about espionage and information gathering. Residents notice people speaking a foreign dialect, taking photos and staying in forbidden or important places,» Fuglem said.

Strengthening defence

Finnmark Division was established in August 2025 as part of Norway's plans to to double defence capabilities near the border with russia by 2032. The goal is to strengthen surveillance and deterrence of potential threats, including hybrid actions and espionage.

Local authorities call on residents to keep a close eye on suspicious persons and report any security incidents.
