Kremlin: Russia will respond «appropriately» to possible transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine

Russian authorities say they are considering potential transfer of cruise missiles to Ukraine “Tomahawk” as a «serious threat».

The Kremlin stressed that in the event of such a move, Moscow would «respond accordingly», without specifying what measures might be taken.

Context.

Tomahawk cruise missiles are capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 1,500 kilometres. Their possible supply to Ukraine is being actively discussed in the West as a way to strengthen the long-range capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that supplying Ukraine with longer-range weapons «crosses red lines» and «draws NATO into the conflict».

Reaction of the international community

The United States and the United Kingdom emphasise that they have the right to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities, given Russia's constant attacks on Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure.

Experts note that the Kremlin's threats may be aimed primarily at information pressure to scare Western partners away from transferring long-range systems.
