Journalists have released new footage from the sites of Russian troops« attacks on Naftogaz Group's gas infrastructure. The video shows destroyed gas distribution units, damaged compressor stations and craters from missile and drone strikes.

Media representatives note that the consequences of the strikes are «striking in scale» and indicate Russia's targeted tactics to destroy critical energy infrastructure before the winter season.

Why it is critical

The destruction of Naftogaz's facilities resulted in a reduction in domestic gas transmission capacity and localised interruptions, forcing Ukraine to increase imports.

According to industry sources, imports are expected to increase in the coming weeks:
- from EU countries,
- from the USA in the format of LNG supplies through European terminals.

The need for an emergency reserve

Due to the destroyed facilities, Ukraine is working to build up additional gas reserves for the winter period. Sources note that Russia's attacks may be aimed at undermining energy stability before peak loads.

Naftogaz: recovery continues

Naftogaz confirmed that repair and emergency teams are working around the clock. Some of the damaged areas have already been restored, but some facilities require complex and lengthy work.
