SBU conducts over 160 strikes on Russian oil production facilities since the beginning of war

Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Malyuk said that the SBU, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion conducted more than 160 successful strikes on Russian oil production infrastructure.

«The work is being carried out exclusively for legitimate purposes, which fill the budget of the Russian Ministry of Defence by 90 per cent. We are talking about “dirty” oil dollars, which are used by the enemy to attack Ukraine,» Malyuk said.

According to the head of the SBU, only in September-October this year was affected 20 facilities:

  • 6 oil refineries,

  • 2 oil terminals,

  • 3 oil depots,

  • 9 oil pumping stations.

Implications for Russia

According to the SBU, The strikes led to a shortage of about 20 % of oil products in Russia, which led to a temporary ban on petrol exports until the end of 2025.
The Russian media have been silent on the extent of the destruction, calling the attacks «technical incidents».

Significance for Ukraine's defence

Such operations, according to Malyuk, should exclusively strategic and defensive in nature - They are aimed at reducing the funding of the Russian army and deterring its military capabilities.

«Every missile or drone that the enemy launches at our cities was bought with oil money. And our task is to make this money disappear,» he concluded.
