A call for energy independence from Moscow
A group of US senators appealed to the government Hungary with an official letter calling for stop purchasing Russian oil and gas.
This was reported by the agency Bloomberg.
The address was made on the eve of the Prime Minister's visit Viktor Orban to Washington, where he plans to meet with US President Donald Trump.
«We call on the Hungarian government to demonstrate European unity and end its dependence on Russian energy. This is a matter of common security,» the statement reads.
Bipartisan position of the Congress
The letter was signed by ten senators - representatives as Republican, and Democratic Party.
They reminded Budapest that European Union has a clear plan complete refusal from Russian energy resources by 2027, Hungary cannot be an exception.
According to Bloomberg, the senators expressed concern that Hungarian cooperation with the Russian company “Lukoil” continues to undermine the unity of the EU and NATO.
