A new fraudulent scheme targeting pensioners is spreading in Ukraine - Hetmantsev

Ukraine is witnessing a new wave of online fraud targeting older people. This was announced by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy Daniil Getmantsev.

According to him, scammers massively send pensioners in social networks and messengers fake news, The state authorities have been asking people to «reconfirm their age» or «submit an application», allegedly to continue payments or avoid termination of their pension.


Details of the fraud

  • Fraudsters use copies of government logos, fake websites and fake «verification» forms.

  • The messages claim that the pension may be «frozen» if the questionnaire is not completed immediately.

  • Gullible users are directed to phishing pages where they enter their personal data and banking information.

  • The main goal is to theft of funds and personal data.

Hetmantsev stressed:

«There are no such requirements. The appointment or termination of pensions is regulated exclusively by law.».


Context.

Since the beginning of the year, law enforcement officers have already recorded several online fraud campaigns against pensioners, in particular under the pretext of «indexation» or «compensation payments». Experts urge people to never click on suspicious links or share card details.

The Ministry of Social Policy reminds:

  • Pension fund does not send messages on social media,

  • All official changes and procedures are available only on the PFU portal or through the ASC.
