Outbreak of Coxsackie virus recorded in Kyiv region

The Centre for Public Health of Ukraine reported on New cases of Coxsackie virus infection in the Kyiv region. The infection, which is often confused with the common cold, can actually have dangerous complications.

Main symptoms

The disease starts suddenly and resembles the flu:

• temperature increase,

• sore throat,

• headache,

• nausea or diarrhea.

But. main feature - is watery blisters in the mouth, on the palms and feet, which appear a few days after infection.

Why it is dangerous

Doctors warn against self-medication. Coxsackie virus can cause lesions:

• of the heart (viral myocarditis),

• nervous system (aseptic meningitis),

• as well as the development of inflammatory processes in the liver.

How it is transmitted

The infection spreads by airborne droplets, and through Contact with contaminated surfaces or water. Children are more likely to get sick, but adults are not immune either.

Doctors' advice

• Wash your hands thoroughly after going outdoors and before eating;

• Do not share towels and utensils;

• avoid swimming in questionable waters;

• consult a doctor if you develop a rash or fever.
