US urges Europe not to approve «reparations loan» to Ukraine from frozen Russian assets
The United States has asked European countries to not to approve the allocation of the so-called “reparations loan” to Ukraine”, which was to be financed by frozen Russian assets. This was reported by Bloomberg.
According to sources, the US administration insists that frozen assets of russia should remain a lever for reaching a peace agreement, instead of being used now as a financial resource to support Ukraine's defence.
Details
Washington believes that the early seizure or lending secured by Russian assets could deprive the West of an important tool of pressure on Moscow during possible negotiations.
European governments, for their part, are divided: some countries support the immediate use of assets to help Ukraine, while others do not want to deepen the conflict with the US and fear legal consequences.
Context.
