Finnish President Stubb: ceasefire in Ukraine unlikely before spring - Europe must step up support
President of Finland Alexander Stubb said that a ceasefire in Ukraine is unlikely to be reached at least until spring and stressed the need for the European Union to continue to support Kyiv.
Stubb's position on the war in Ukraine
Stubb stressed that the Kremlin is demonstrating its readiness to continue fighting for a long time, so there is no reason to expect a quick pause on the frontline. He believes that Europe should act strategically, preventing a reduction in aid to Ukraine at a time when Russian forces are increasing their pressure.
Corruption scandal and risks to international support
The President of Finland said that the Ukrainian authorities need to promptly deal with allegations of kickbacks and embezzlement, as this scandal plays into Russia's hands. According to him, such events can undermine the trust of partners if there is no quick and transparent response. At the same time, Stubb stressed that Ukraine's internal problems should not automatically reduce support for Kyiv, as this is exactly what Moscow wants.
A call to Europe to increase financial and military assistance
Stubb called on European leaders to not only maintain, but also consider increasing financial and military support for Ukraine. He stressed that the stability of Europe directly depends on Ukraine's ability to deter Russian aggression.
