Ex-head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Serhiy Deyneko granted bail in the amount of UAH 10 million

To the former head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Sergey Deyneko a deposit of 10 million hryvnias. This was reported by Ukrayinska Pravda with reference to the data of the High Anti-Corruption Court.

According to the court, the funds were deposited by another person within the time limit set by the procedural decision.


The essence of the suspicion

Law enforcement agencies suspect the former head of the Border Guard Service and a number of others of possible involvement in organising the illegal movement of tobacco products across the state border.

According to the investigation, the smuggling could have taken place systematically, and for the unimpeded passage of vehicles, money was allegedly paid in the amount of about 3 thousand euros per car.

An official legal assessment of these circumstances will be provided by the court after the case is completed on the merits.


Procedural status

Currently, bail means applying to the suspect preventive measures not related to custody, with the imposition of duties determined by the court.

All circumstances of the case are checked within the framework of criminal proceedings, and the person is considered innocent until proven guilty by law.

Investigations into alleged abuses in the customs and border area are in the focus of Ukraine's anti-corruption authorities and international partners, as the fight against smuggling is one of the key conditions for reforming the security sector and the rule of law.
