All new residential buildings in Ukraine must be equipped with shelters - law signed
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law that Obliges to equip shelters in all new residential buildings. The relevant decision was made by Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The law comes into force shortly after the President's signature and establishes a mandatory requirement for developers to Build in protective shelters when constructing new residential buildings.
What the law provides for
According to the document:
Shelters should take into account even at the design stage of buildings
They should be robust, equipped and accessible for all residents
The approach addresses of all residential buildings, erected after the law enters into force
The purpose of the new requirements is to Improving the safety of citizens in case of emergencies, In particular, in times of war.
Why it was adopted
Ukraine continues to adapt its construction regulations to take into account security risks and threats to civilians. The law aims to:
Increase the level of protection of citizens
Create systemic requirements for safe housing
reduce risks to residents during air raids or shelling
The law was supported by the majority of MPs.
