At the Kyiv Institute of Physical Education (NUFVSU) exposed large-scale corruption schemes worth over UAH 150 million. The university management used the property of the institution as their own business, denying access to it to students and teachers.
Illegal use of university property
InFiz, located in the heart of Kyiv, has a rich infrastructure: fitness centres, swimming pools, a clinic, a gymnastics club, and a ski resort in the Holosiivskyi district. However, instead of providing these services to students and faculty, the management closed access to them and began using the property for personal enrichment.
Responsible persons and the scale of the crime
Mikhail Pyzhov, acting rector of NUPh, together with the director of the university clinic By Mikhail Rygan and several deputy rectors organised a scheme to withdraw about UAH 150 million annually outside the budget. These funds were used to finance a luxurious lifestyle: foreign trips, expensive cars and the purchase of luxury real estate.
Implications for the university and the investigation
The closure of access to sports facilities and a medical clinic has had a negative impact on the educational process and the health of students. The journalists' investigation reveals how corruption in one of the country's leading sports universities undermines the reputation and credibility of the institution.
Law enforcement agencies have already started an investigation, and the university community is demanding transparency and accountability from the management.
