In February, Kyiv may have only 4-6 hours of light per day
In February, Kyiv residents can only receive electricity from 4-6 hours per day due to large-scale damage to the city's key thermal power plants. This was stated by the Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Renewable Energy Association Stanislav Ignatiev.
According to him, Russian strikes have seriously damaged Darnytska CHPP-4 and CHPP-6 in Troyeschina, This significantly affects the stability of Kyiv's energy supply.
The scale of the destruction
The expert noted that:
damage to the energy infrastructure is critical;
full recovery may take time for years;
The shortage of generation will directly affect duration of light supply in the capital.
These estimates indicate the risk of prolonged power outages even after the active phase of attacks is over.
Context.
Russia is systematically attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure in an attempt to create shortage of electricity and heat during winter frosts.
The Ukrainian authorities and energy companies continue emergency repairs, dispersal of generation and preparation of backup power supplies, but the extent of damage in major cities remains significant.
The future situation with electricity supply will depend on the pace of restoration of facilities, weather conditions and the level of new attacks.
