SBU and NABU expose MP on scheme with NAAS land worth UAH 30 million

Employees Security Service of Ukraine and National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine exposed an incumbent MP on organising a scheme for misappropriation of property National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine in the amount of about UAH 30 million.

According to the investigation, the 2021-2023 the land controlled by the defendant was used for growing grain crops, which were subsequently illegally sold in bulk through affiliated companies. The total volume of such products exceeded 2.5 thousand tonnes.


How the scheme worked

According to the law enforcement, there were people involved in the fraud:

  • Member of the Kyiv Regional Council;

  • two heads of state-owned enterprises of the National Academy of Sciences;

  • trustee of a Member of Parliament.

To. to hide the illegal use of land, The scheme's participants underreported yields in their documentation or did not report some of the harvested products at all.


Suspicions and possible punishment

The MP and four other participants were notified of suspicion under the article on misappropriation of property on an especially large scale committed by an organised group.

The context of the case

In August 2023, the same MP was detained on suspicion of receiving a bribe of $85,000 for the promise to transfer the land to the National Academy of Sciences for use.

According to open sources, it is likely to be the MP Anatoliya Gunko. Law enforcement officials have not publicly confirmed the identity of the suspect in the new proceedings.
