Rector of «Holosiivskyi Desert» flees Ukraine after exposing underground school

Abbot of the Holosiivska Pustyn Monastery« Fedir Andronik (monastic name Isaac Vorzelsky) left Ukraine after an underground «school» was discovered at the monastery.

According to available information, he left the territory of Ukraine on the night of 7 January. He is probably currently in Moldova. Andronik does not respond to calls and messages.


What is known about the underground school

According to law enforcement agencies and journalists, an illegal school was operating at the UOC-MP monastery, teaching children:

  • taught Russian language;

  • involved in the implementation of Soviet songs;

  • brought up in an ideological environment that contradicts Ukrainian legislation and educational standards.

The school operated without appropriate permits and outside the state education system.


Context.

The scandal surrounding the Holosiivska Wilderness arose against the backdrop of increased state attention to the activities of structures associated with UOC-MP, In particular, on possible signs of pro-Russian propaganda and violations of children's rights.

Earlier, law enforcement officials had repeatedly announced inspections of church facilities where illegal educational or ideological centres could operate.

So far, there have been no official statements from Fedor Andronik himself or representatives of the monastery. Law enforcement agencies are investigating all the circumstances of the underground school's activities and the possible liability of those involved.
