The police are now required to closely monitor the presence of children in schools. If a student is absent for a long period of time, information will be passed on to the Service for Children. Violations may result in fines for parents.
Police to monitor school attendance
Minister of Education Oxen Forest said that the police should now track the presence of a child at school. If a student is absent for a long time, law enforcement officers must report this to the Service for Children.
Lisovyi stressed that the responsible authorities will respond more harshly to unexcused absences. According to him, this will help protect the child's right to education.
Responsibility of parents
Under current law, parents' evasion of their child's education obligations entails administrative liability. Possible sanctions include:
- Warning;
- a fine of UAH 850 to 5100.
Responsibility mechanisms will be applied depending on the reasons for the child's absence from school.
