Ukrainians from the age of 16 can change their name on their own

Ukrainians who have reached the age of 16 have the right to change their surname, name or patronymic on their own. To do this, you should contact the ASC.

Citizens of Ukraine aged 16 and over may independently change your name, surname or patronymic. This was reported by the Lviv Administrative Services Centre. To make a change, you need to submit an application and documents.

Name change procedure

To change your name, you need to contact any territorial unit ASC at the place of residence. You must submit an application and a set of documents.

The service is subject to a fee. The application is considered within three months from the date of submission, but this period may be extended for another three months.

What documents are required

To change the name, you must provide:
- an application for a change of name;
- a passport of a citizen of Ukraine;
- documents confirming the change (if necessary);
- a receipt of payment of the administrative fee.

You can apply to any ASC regardless of your place of registration. The service is available to all citizens who have reached the age of 16.

Previously, only adults could change their name on their own. The innovation simplifies the procedure for young people.

The right to change the name is guaranteed by the legislation of Ukraine. The decision to change the name shall be entered in the relevant state registers.
