Head of the warehouse of a military unit from Odesa region sold and pawned more than 60 drones, which were intended for the defence of the South of Ukraine. This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation.

Circumstances of the case

According to the SBI, the military officer in charge of the drones abused his position. He sold the drones, which were to be used to defend the southern regions of the country, through pawnshops, making illegal profits.

The investigation is establishing the circumstances of the sale and the involvement of other persons in the scheme. The serviceman has already been served a notice of suspicion, and the procedural actions are under way.

Impact on defence capability

Drones play an important role in reconnaissance and security at the frontline. The loss of more than 60 drones could have significantly weakened the Ukrainian army's capabilities in the south.

In this regard, the SBI stressed the importance of controlling military property and called for strengthening internal security in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Reaction of the public and authorities

The news caused a wide public outcry, as such cases undermine confidence in the military. The authorities promised to respond harshly to such offences and to strengthen control over military property.
