Syrsky: «Of course, it is unacceptable for us to simply give away territory»

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky responded sharply to statements about the alleged need for territorial concessions. He stressed that the issue of «giving up the land» was not even being considered:

«Of course, it is unacceptable for us to simply give up our territory. What does it mean to give up our land? That is why we are fighting; that is why we are not giving up our territory.».

Syrsky noted that the Ukrainian military pays a high price every day for the defence of the country's territory, and giving up any part of Ukraine contradicts the meaning of this struggle.

What peace should look like

The Commander-in-Chief stressed that A just peace for Ukraine - is:

  • without preconditions;

  • without giving up the territory;

  • to stop the war along the current contact line.

According to him, the negotiations should be based on respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and international law.

Context.

Syrsky's statement came amid discussions in Europe and the United States about possible scenarios for ending the war and growing pressure on Ukraine to offer «territorial compromises».
