Method for hair growth

Scientists from Taiwan have discovered a way to restore hair growth

Researchers from Taiwan have reported a new mechanism for activating hair growth, which could be a breakthrough in regenerative medicine.
The paper was published in a scientific journal Cell Metabolism.

How it works

During the study, the researchers found that lipolysis in the fat cells of the skin - the process of breaking down fat activates epithelial stem cells.
This, in turn, triggers the growth of new hair follicles even in areas where hair has already fallen out.

“We were surprised by the speed of the reaction: the mice started to show noticeable hair growth after 20 days,” the researchers said in their report.

Only experiments so far

The method is currently tested only on laboratory mice.
However, the results give hope for the creation of a new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of alopecia in humans - without transplantation or hormonal drugs.

Scientists emphasise that the next stage will be testing the safety of the method on human cells and the development of safe mechanisms to control lipolysis.
