Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Tajikistan for a visit, where he was welcomed by President Emomali Rahmon.
This happened despite a valid arrest warrant for Putin issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

During the official ceremony in Dushanbe The President of the Russian Federation was greeted with an honour guard, an orchestra and a personal hug from Emomali Rahmon.
The parties stated that they intend to «deepen the strategic partnership» between the two countries.

Reaction of the international community

Organisation. Human Rights Watch on the eve of the visit called on Tajikistan to ban entry or implement the ICC decision and arrest Putin, accused of war crimes against Ukrainian children.
However, Dushanbe publicly ignored these demands.

«Tajikistan is a country that has ratified the Rome Statute and is legally obliged to cooperate with the ICC,» HRW said.


ICC warrant

As a reminder, in March 2023 International Criminal Court issues arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin in the case of illegal export of Ukrainian children from the occupied territories.
Despite this, Putin continues to travel abroad to countries that either do not recognise the jurisdiction of the ICC or evade the implementation of its decisions.
