On the night of 3 December, a large-scale fire broke out in the Tambov region of Russia on the territory of an oil depot. This was reported by the governor of the region, who said that the fire was caused by debris from a downed or crashed UAV.

The released footage shows a high column of fire and smoke illuminating the surrounding area.

Government response

According to the governor, they arrived at the scene promptly:

  • fire and rescue units;

  • law enforcement agencies;

  • additional forces involved in the aftermath.

Authorities claim that «all necessary services are working», but details about the extent of the damage or possible casualties have not yet been disclosed.

Context.

Russian regions near the central part of the country are increasingly reporting drone attacks on oil depots, energy and military infrastructure. The Kremlin has traditionally blamed Ukraine, while official Kyiv has been cautious or not commenting on such incidents at all.
