Poroshenko made money on business with Ukraine's enemies
President of Moldova Maya Sandu accused the fifth president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in cooperation with a Moldovan oligarch Vladimir Plakhotnyuk, who was recently extradited to Chisinau and arrested.
According to Sandu, Poroshenko supplied scrap metal to an enterprise in Transnistria, the proceeds of which went to financing of pro-Russian structures in the region.
«Poroshenko's actions are outright blasphemy. He profited from business with Ukraine's enemies during the war,» Sandu said in an interview with Politico.
Plakhotniuk agreed to testify
According to the Moldovan media, Vladimir Plakhotnyuk After his arrest, he agreed to cooperate with the investigation and is ready to to testify against Petro Poroshenko.
We are talking about joint financial schemes, through which metal transactions were carried out between Ukraine, Moldova and enterprises in the territory of unrecognised Transnistria.
Plakhotniuk's companies released from sanctions
Investigative journalists found out that during the Poroshenko presidency Some of the companies associated with Plakhotniuk were removed from the sanctions lists. This allowed the company to resume export operations and officially supply raw materials to factories in Transnistria.
According to Politico, These decisions could have been made with the approval of Ukrainian government agencies close to the then president.
Political implications
Experts note that Poroshenko scandal may not only have an international resonance but also affect his political position within Ukraine.
So far, the official Poroshenko team did not comment statements by Maia Sandu and investigations by journalists.
