Whitaker: Tomahawk missiles can change the course of war

US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said that supplies to Ukraine Tomahawk long-range missiles could significantly affect the Kremlin's position and bring the possibility of diplomatic negotiations closer.

«The possibility of a deep strike could change Putin's calculations and put many things at risk, including important energy infrastructure in Russia,» the diplomat said.

According to him, the appearance of such missiles in Ukraine will be «a deterrent», This will force the Russian leadership to consider the risks of further escalation.

A new stage of military support from the United States

According to the American media, Washington considers transferring a limited number of Tomahawks to Ukraine as part of an updated assistance package.
These are missiles of the class «land to land» with a range of more than 1,000 km, capable of hitting strategic targets such as military bases, warehouses, command centres and energy infrastructure with high accuracy.

«Such missiles will allow Ukraine to neutralise the enemy's deep rear positions without violating international agreements,» added Whitaker.

Moscow reacts nervously

The Russian Foreign Ministry has already stated that transfer of Tomahawk to Ukraine will “cross the red line”, calling it a «provocation by the West».
At the same time, the US emphasises that assistance to Ukraine is protective and is aimed solely at restoring the territorial integrity of the state.
