Trump calls on Ukraine to sit down at the negotiating table as soon as possible
President of the United States Donald Trump said that Ukraine should start negotiations to end the war as soon as possible. According to him, the United States wants Kyiv to agree to come to the negotiating table.
«Ukraine should sit down at the negotiating table as soon as possible. That's all I'm going to tell you. We want them to do that,» Trump said, commenting on possible talks in Geneva.
He also stressed that the upcoming negotiations are «big negotiations» and at the same time expressed his belief that the process could be «very easy».
Context of possible negotiations
The latest statements came amidst a diplomatic intensification around potential talks between Ukraine and Russia with the participation of international partners. Geneva is traditionally seen as one of the key venues for such talks.
At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly stressed that any negotiations are possible only if the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state are respected.
