Trump says «Russians are making concessions»: Putin will agree to end the war
President of the United States Donald Trump said that Russia is «making significant concessions» in negotiations on a possible peaceful settlement. According to him, the main concession made by the Russian side is its willingness to end the war and refuse to seize new territories.
«The border must be logical»
In his statement, Trump also explained that the issue of the border line should be resolved pragmatically:
«If you look at what is happening now, you can see that everything is moving in the same direction. This is land that Russia could get in the next few months anyway. Do you want to have a border? You can't have a border that goes through a highway or through the centre of a big city.».
His commentary refers to the discussions in Washington and Geneva on the possible parameters of a future agreement between Ukraine and Russia.
Context.
Trump's statements came amid active consultations between Ukraine, the US and European partners on an updated peace plan.
Ukraine insists that any agreements cannot contradict its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Kyiv has repeatedly emphasised: There can be no concessions on the issue of territories.
Trump's comment has already provoked a reaction from a number of politicians and experts, who noted that such statements could put pressure on Ukraine on the eve of the next round of negotiations.
