Trump: US won't consider Tomahawk delivery to Ukraine and will end war in a few months
Donald Trump said that his administration «is not currently considering the possibility of transferring Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine».
At the same time, he added that he is convinced that the war in Ukraine can be ended «very quickly».
«We have to protect our own reserves. Tomahawk is not on the agenda. But I believe that we will end this war in a few months after a new peace plan is adopted,» Trump said.
He stressed that the United States remains committed to supporting Ukraine, but will focus on diplomatic and strategic steps rather than expanding military supplies.
What is known about Tomahawk missiles
Tomahawk - is a long-range cruise missile used by the US Navy. It is capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 1500 km and is highly accurate.
Earlier, experts suggested that the provision of such systems to Ukraine could significantly enhance its long-range capabilities, but Washington fears a sharp reaction from Moscow.
Trump's new «peace plan»
Trump has hinted that he is preparing an «alternative approach» to ending the war in Ukraine, which may be presented in the near future.
According to him, he is «negotiating with several leaders» and seeks to create a framework agreement that will allow the fighting to stop without losing Ukraine's sovereignty.
Official details of the plan have not yet been made public, but Washington expects the proposal to include security guarantees, prisoner exchange, and a gradual resumption of trade between the parties.
Ukraine's response
In Kyiv, Trump's statements were received with caution. Some representatives of the Ukrainian government note that any peace plan should be based on respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and anticipate withdrawal of Russian troops.
Conclusion.
The combination of Trump's statements - about not giving up the Tomahawk and about ending the war soon - indicates that his administration wants to move from military support to a political settlement.
Experts believe that this could affect Ukraine's strategic position, especially if a «peace plan» is presented this winter.
