Russian oil transit through Ukraine will continue until 2029

Ukraine will not terminate the existing contract for the transit of Russian oil, which is valid until 2029. This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denis Shmygal, commenting on the issue of oil transportation via the Druzhba pipeline.

Transit volumes

According to Shmyhal, in 2025, Ukraine transported about 9.73 million tonnes of Russian oil through the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline.

It is on 14% less, than in 2024, when transit volumes were 11.36 million tonnes.

Where the oil was supplied to

  • Slovakia - almost 4.9 million tonnes, that on 24% more, than in 2024;

  • Hungary - 4.35 million tonnes, that on 8% less, than last year.

Other volumes were transported in transit to Central Europe under existing contracts.

Context.

Oil pipeline «Druzhba» remains one of the key routes for oil supplies to the EU. Ukraine is fulfilling its international obligations on energy transit, while the European Union is gradually reducing its dependence on Russian resources as part of its sanctions policy.

The government emphasises that the issue of transit is regulated by long-term contracts, and all decisions are made with due regard to national interests and European legislation.
