Trump tries to reach a deal with Xi Jinping during trip to Asia
President of the United States Donald Trump is embarking on a five-day tour of Asia, which will cover Malaysia, Japan and South Korea.
One of the main objectives of the visit will be to meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Reuters reports.
According to the agency, although no major breakthrough is expected, the parties may agree on partial reduction of tariffs, China's commitment to purchasing US goods or easing of US export restrictions.
The purpose and context of the negotiations
The US and China have been in a state of trade and economic confrontation, covering issues of tariffs, technology control and supply of rare earth metals.
Trump's Asia tour comes amid aggravation of the global situation - The war in Ukraine, the conflict in the Middle East, and rising tensions between the US and North Korea.
Analysts believe that the meeting could become a step towards stabilising relations between Washington and Beijing, even if no specific agreements are signed.

Reduction or deferral of duties The US has imposed a US$1.5bn tariff on Chinese goods;
