Turkey: the war in Ukraine is almost over - Foreign Ministry
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that the Russian-Ukrainian war is in its «almost final» stage. This was reported by the Suspilne media outlet, citing an interview with the A Haber channel.
According to Fidan, the Turkish side believes that it is not so much a classic military operation as a diplomatic process, and the losses and costs of the parties have become so great that the armed phase of the war is close to completion.
«At this stage, we are talking about a war that is almost over... Of course, it needs to be stopped.».
Details of Turkey's position
The minister noted that both sides of the war - Russia and Ukraine - have moved to the stage of depletion of infrastructure and resources, including transport and energy.
He also stressed that Ankara is ready to act as a platform for a new round of talks between the parties, although he did not specify the date or format.
In response, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Sergey Kislitsa noted that negotiations with Russia have been suspended due to the lack of progress.
Context.
Turkey has previously mediated in the peace process between Ukraine and Russia, particularly in Istanbul. With Ukraine continuing to emphasise its right to sovereignty and the restoration of its territorial integrity, Turkey's position could play an important role in future negotiations.
Meanwhile, fighting continues on the frontline, and experts warn that while a political agreement is on the table, it does not automatically mean an end to the war. Ukrainian officials emphasise that any talks will not be accompanied by concessions on territory.
