Polish president and prime minister exchange harsh statements in X - conflict over Ukraine stance
Between President of Poland Marek Nawrocki and Prime Minister Donald Tusk a public conflict broke out on a social network X (Twitter). The two politicians exchanged sharp comments, which was a rare case of an open dispute between two major figures in the Polish government.
The reason was Tusk's comment, which hinted at Presidential incompetence, stating:
«Winning the election is not enough to become president.».
Navrotsky reacted sharply:
«To be a prime minister, it's not enough to just write posts in X.».
The controversy quickly gained publicity in the Polish media and caused a wave of political commentary.
Context.
The conflict erupted against the backdrop of disagreements in Poland's foreign policy, in particular over support for Ukraine.
Earlier, Navrotsky said that Poland will “put its own interests above Ukraine's” і “cannot fulfil absolutely all of Kyiv's demands even without discussion”.
This statement caused a wave of criticism in Poland and abroad. Tusk's government, which advocates maintaining maximum support for Ukraine, distanced himself from the president's words, The government's position remains “clearly pro-Ukrainian”, he said.
Political tensions
Analysts believe that these are one of the most acrimonious public disputes between the President and the Prime Minister of Poland in recent years.
The split in the leadership may make it difficult to formulate a unified foreign policy in Warsaw, especially on the eve of the NATO summit, where the issue of assistance to Ukraine remains a key one.
