Pressure on defence companies could undermine Ukraine's missile programmes

The actions of some anti-corruption bodies inside the country may harm Ukraine's defence industry. This was stated by the managing partner of the National Anti-Crisis Group Taras Zagorodniy.

According to him, the use of missiles FP-5 «Flamingo» is a de facto signal of Ukraine's desire to join the circle of states that possess intermediate-range missiles. At the same time, the expert argues, there is a parallel systemic pressure on defence enterprises.

What anti-corruption bodies are accused of

Zahorodniy claims a number of actions that, in his opinion, are detrimental to defence production:

  • holding searches at enterprises;

  • seizure of equipment;

  • blocking of accounts companies;

  • sending discrediting letters to international partners.

The expert believes that such steps pose risks to the preservation of critical technologies and Ukraine's ability to produce weapons independently.

Connection with missile development

According to Zahorodnyi, the development of our own missile systems means less dependence on external approvals for the use of long-range weapons.

He also stressed that internal pressure on defence enterprises could actually stop programmes that could provide Ukraine with strategic autonomy in the field of armaments.

Context.

Ukraine is actively increasing its own arms production, in particular Missile and unmanned systems, to reduce dependence on external supplies and strengthen defence capabilities in the war against Russia.

At the same time, the question is balance between anti-corruption policy and the security needs of the state remains a subject of public and expert discussion.
